2018 guard Cortez Garland had an MVP worthy outing at the MLK Classic, dropping 25 points and 3 assists against Flint Beecher. Hit the jump for fresh highlights of the Detroit Renaissance senior.
Cortez was on fire from deep, knocking down 5 triples on the game. Garland buried shots from distance off the dribble from NBA range and did a superb job relocating when he played off-ball to give his teammates good passing angles before converting his triples. His perimeter stroke is obviously a strong part of his game, but Cortez also flashed nice vision on a few occasions. The senior combo-guard was able to create easy dunks and layups for teammate Carrington McCaskill by probing the paint and finding his athletic forward once the helpside defense arrived. Garland also excelled as a finisher, showing good body control in the air to avoid shotblocking bigs before converting with either hand and even bringing out a floater. See below for highlights.
