Oscar Smith HS (VA) guard Cameron Thomas is one of the fastest rising sophomores in the country. Hit the jump for self-analysis of his game and an early look at his recruitment.

The 6’1 guard burst onto the scene this Summer while playing up a year with a talented Boo Williams squad on the EYBL circuit.

“I played well for my first year on the circuit, playing up an age group on the Nike circuit was challenging some games but I knew I was skilled enough to compete with anyone.”

A smooth guard with a great stroke from the perimeter, Cam is a three level scorer with shot creation ability off the dribble.

“My biggest strength is scoring the ball, I can score in all ways and I know my spots on the floor to score the ball. Also, playmaking is one of my strengths, I can set my teammates up in good positions so they can score the ball.”

Thomas is one of the most coveted prospects in the 2020 class, with Old Dominion, Florida, Virginia Tech, Creighton, Rhode Island and Hampton already extending official offers. NC State, UConn, and Miami are all showing interest as well.

Cameron has a long way to go before his recruitment comes into focus, but two ACC programs are prioritizing him early on.

“I’m hearing from Virginia Tech and NC State the most right now,” Thomas told Endless Motor.

That early work has paid dividends for the Wolfpack, as Cam is tentatively set to see campus in the near future.

“I have a visit scheduled to NC State on November 4th, but not sure I can go. Haven’t really thought about any college visits, just focusing on my game and getting better.”

For now though, Thomas is looking to make more an impact on the glass to compliment his scoring and creating abilities.

“Rebounding is the major part of my game that I’m looking to improve. I can rebound, just want to get some double doubles this year. I set goals so I can always keep improving my game so I won’t become bored with the game.”
