Detroit Renaissance forward Carrington McCaskill broke out running with the REACH Legends on the AAU circuit. Hit the jump as McCaskill discusses his play this Summer and find out which program he’ll be visiting this Saturday.
The 6’7 forward generated a ton of buzz on the NY2LA circuit as an explosive athlete with a rapidly developing skillset that allows him to play multiple spots on both ends of the floor.
“My biggest strengths are rebounding, shotblocking, finishing at the rim and being skilled enough to handle the ball a shoot from the three point line.”
Carrington was a standout on a loaded REACH Legends 16u squad that generally made deep runs in bracket play all Summer.
“I think I did really well in the NY2LA circuit. I just wish that we could have pulled out some of those championship games, but other than that my team and I did really well.”
While McCaskill was under the radar prior to the Spring, he’s picked up offers from Cleveland State, University of Detroit, Buffalo, UT-Martin and Kent State in the past 3 months.
In addition to those 5 offers, Carrington is picking up a ton of interest from numerous programs including the in-state high major schools.
“I’m getting interest from the University of Michigan, Michigan State, Miami (OH), VCU, Georgia State, Illinois State, Duquesne, UW Milwaukee, Marist, Oakland University, Northern Kentucky, Loyola Chicago, Stony Brook, North Dakota, Air Force and Eastern Michigan.”
While its still very early in his recruitment, McCaskill does have a visit set up for this weekend.
“I’m visiting Michigan State this Saturday for the football game against Iowa.”
With that being his only visit in the immediate future, Carrington’s focus is geared toward a strong season in the Detroit Public School league.
“My main goal is to lead my team to a championship this year. I really believe that we have the team this year to get far. Also for myself, I want to blow up on the national level.”
McCaskill will certainly be one to track over the next year. At a legit 6’7 with great length and outstanding athletic ability, he has the look of a high-major prospect from a physical standpoint. He has a plus shot from distance and can handle the ball in transition as well. See below for highlights.
