Combo-forward Dana Tate gives the Rams their first pledge for the 2018 cycle. Hit the jump for full details on why the versatile and skilled Tate decided to jump aboard.

Expressions Elite forward Dana Tate committed to the Atlantic 10 power Rhode Island Rams today in a press conference at the Reggie Lewis Center. The on-court fit and the direction of the program figured heavily in his decision.

“It’s an up and coming top 30 program in the country. Their style of play fits me, and I want to play for a coach like Hurley. They believe in me and that I’ll do big things there for the program.”

While Tate took visits and was deliberate with the process, his gut feeling was confirmed this Spring/Summer when the Rams prioritized Dana on the recruiting trail.

“I’ve known for a while now I was heading to Rhode Island. They showed up to every single game. That made it clear that this is the school for me.”

Tate anticipates a situation where he is able to come in and be a rotation player early on.

“Coach Hurley sees a big role for me. They are depending on me to do a lot. Be an impact freshman and become a leader.”

Dana wants Ram nation to know that he plans on bringing it each and every day from the very start.

“I’m definitely bringing energy, hard work and commitment. I’m going to make sure this program maintains its high status from these past years. Oh…..and get buckets too.”

Rhode Island is getting one of the more complete forwards in the country for 2018. His combination of size, skill and versatility allow him to play multiple spots on the floor on both the offensive and defensive ends.  At a legit 6’7, he has the skill to knock down shots from the perimeter and break down defenders of the dribble and finish at the rim. His vision is extremely under-rated, he consistently finds gaps in a defense before finding teammates in stride for open looks in both the half-court and transition. Defensively he has the size and strength to defend the paint and be a plus rebounder.
