Houston Hoops’ wing Matthew Mayer is emerging as one of the best offensive prospects in the country . The 6’7 junior displayed a versatile skillset during EYBL Session 2 that should result in his stock rising this summer.
Matt shot the lights from deep as usual, going 8/16 from three over four games in Indianapolis. While his shooting ability is never in doubt, his ability to create his own offense from the wing was superb. Mayer displayed advanced footwork and use of his pivot foot to consistently create separation off the dribble for easy looks at the rim. Throw in the fact that Matt is also a good midrange shooter off the bounce, and you have a wing that scores at all three levels. He also showed very good athleticism on a tip-dunk that brought the crowd to its feet, with his head approaching rim level. While some publications have Mayer as a top 100 player, his production and ability on the EYBL circuit may be consistent with that of a top 50 type player. See below for highlights.
