Jimmy Bell is an elite student-athlete currently attending Arthur Hill in Saginaw, Michigan. Bell is a talented and emerging big-man in the Midwest for the class of 2018, and a two-sport athlete also garnering interest in football at the D1 level. The 6’8 center was impressive on the AAU circuit this summer as a member of Greenwood Elite and his recruiting profile is taking off, garnering his share of D1 offers due to his ability to carve out space, rebound his area and finish in the post.

EM: Congrats on the great Spring/Summer, you turned some heads with your ability. Can you tell us how things went for Greenwood Elite as a team and for you individually?

JB: Playing 16u and 17u was great. I picked up offers along the way and played against top 100 players. My team Greenwood Elite won our last tournament which was the Las Vegas Fab 48 in the silver division, if I’m not mistaken.

EM: Can you describe your game for those that are not familiar?

JB:  I am a defensive first type player. I use my body with everything that I do so most of the time I have the advantage. On offense, I’m a good post player who has a very nice spin jump hook.  If you need me to score, rebound, box out, or hammer it down on someone then you can count on me/

EM: How often do you work on your game?

JB: In the morning,  I work on shooting and dribbling, take a break, then I have football from 12-4 am which I use some of that as my conditioning. Later on that day, I go back to the gym at about 6-8 pm and work with my guards on post entry, different post moves, footwork and finishing around the basket. I need to improve my spot up shooting, help-side defense, finishing threw contact, and identifying threw double teams.

EM: Can we talk a bit about your interests as a student, what is your favorite subject?

JB: My favorite subject is history.

EM: What do you plan to major in when attending college?

JB: I’ve thought about sports medicine.

EM: What are your interests off the court?

JB: Swimming, golfing ,just chilling at a friends house, or video games.

EM: Shifting a bit to recruiting, can you tell us which schools have offered?

JB: I have offers from Iowa State, UNLV, Oakland University and Southern Utah. For football, I have CMU, Eastern Michigan , Toledo , and Akron.

EM: Which schools show interest that haven’t yet offered?

JB: UNLV, NY State and Texas Tech

EM: Any visits or team camps lined up in the near future?

JB: Don’t have it all sorted out yet but MSU, Oakland, UM.

EM: What factors are important to you and your family when making your college decision?

JB: The coaching staff, comfort level, and who is coming in my class.

EM: Any personal goals on or off the court?

JB: On the court, dominating and dunking on people.  My personal goals are to keep dropping my weight. I’m working to get down to 305 before the season starts.

EM: Last, if you could give the youth some advice on how to succeed either on or off the court, what would you say?

JB: I would tell them like Lamar Woodley told me,  “if you really want to make it out of anywhere you are you have to outwork everyone in your school, city, stat, and everyone in the country. You have to want it.  No one should want you to be more successful than you want. Off the court, I would say that you only have one chance to live in this world so don’t mess it up by not working your hardest.
