Antwaan Cushingberry is an elite student-athlete currently attending Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis. Antwaan is one of the most sought after high school point guards in the Midwest, currently ranked the #11 player in the state of Indiana for the class of 2018 per Prep Hoops. The 5’8 floor general was impressive on the AAU circuit this summer and his recruiting profile has picked up recently, with a plethora of D1 schools showing interest in the poised playmaker with the smooth stroke off the bounce and great court vision.

EM: Congrats on the great Spring/Summer, you turned some heads with your ability. Can you tell us how things went for G3 as a team and for you individually?

AC: Thank you and things were kind of shaky in the beginning, but down the line our chemistry started to gel really well and we started playing well with each other. I feel we did great in Vegas and won the whole thing, it was a huge tournament for us.

EM: Can you describe your game for those that are not familiar?

AC: I love to get my team involved, that’s the second goal for me, my absolute first goal is to always give it my all on D. I feel like defense is key to winning, and I love to penetrate inside, draw defenders and kick and dish! And I love the midrange pull up and I’m able to knock the 3 ball down.

EM: How often do you work on your game?

AC: At least 6 times a week! Some mornings I don’t feel like it, but it’s a must! I have to get better, because at 5’7 it’s hard, but I feel hard work is going to get me to the next level.

EM: Can we talk a bit about your interests as a student, what is your favorite subject?

AC: I like Math a lot and I like to draw.

EM: What do you plan to major in when attending college?

AC: I’m not for sure yet.

EM: What are your interests off the court?

AC: I love hanging with my family and friends, and I also love different types and styles of shoes!

EM: Shifting a bit to recruiting, can you tell us which schools have offered?

AC: New Orleans and University of Indianapolis

EM: Which schools show interest that haven’t yet offered?

AC: I’ve heard a lot from Eastern Illinois, Ball state, Northern Kentucky, and a couple of more mid major schools.

EM: Any visits or team camps lined up in the near future?

AC: Yes. I’m supposed to visit Ball Sate and Eastern Illinois very soon

EM: What factors are important to you and your family when making your college decision?

AC: I mean, first off God! We will always appreciate him for giving me great opportunities, but we look for what school fits my style of play, how well the academics are, and the coaching staff and players coming in and leaving! But I’m far away from making a decision.

EM: Any personal goals on or off the court?

AC: I want to become an Indiana All-Star and I want to break the assist record at Lawrence North. And off the court I want to graduate with honors.

EM: Last, if you could give the youth some advice on how to succeed either on or off the court, what would you say?

AC: Stay humble! Never think you’re better than someone. And always work because while you’re resting the next person that’s trying to get your spot is working! And give it your all no matter what it is, you don’t want to regret anything in life.
