Endless Motor Sports had the privilege of speaking with 2018 combo-forward Jerome Hunter (OH Nova/Pickerington North) fresh off his unofficial visit and academic tour to the University of Michigan where he received an offer from head coach John Beilein. Jerome recaps the visit mechanics, the role UM envisions him in, and how he rates the visit. Head coach John Beilein and UM intensified the interest in the 6’7 combo forward during the final July live evaluation period in Las Vegas, and the relationship has grown since that time. It’s hard not to like the potential fit between Jerome and UM, as Hunter has the ability to knock down perimeter shots from both mid-range and three, good enough ball skills to make plays off the dribble from the 3-4 position, all while having the size and athletic ability to attack the glass.
EM: Can you walk us through the visit mechanics?
JH: I arrived around 11:30am. They showed me around the academic facilities, then I talked with Ibi Watson for a while about our rivalry (Pickerington North vs Central). Then they showed me the practice facilities, PDC, and Crisler. After that I had a chance to walk on the football field at Michigan Stadium. The visit ended around 3:30 with where the staff saw me fitting in and what position I would play.

EM: Can you talk a bit about the academic tour and what that involved?
JH: They just talked about the class sizes and the one on one tutoring, and how the dorms are directly next to the academic and learning facilities, with study hall right before practice.
EM: What was the basketball presentation like in terms of the position/role that Coach Beilein and staff want you to take on? Any particular player the staff compared you to or envisions you in a similar role?
JH: They said I would be a scorer/shooter, basically the same thing I’m doing right now, but they didn’t compare me to any particular player.
EM: Is that a role you’d like and that you’re comfortable in?
JH: Yes, that’s what I do now. It would just be at a higher level in college.
EM: What would you rate the visit from 1-10? Any plans to visit again in the Fall/Winter for a football or basketball game?
JH: I’d rate it a 10. Really don’t know yet about a return visit.

EM: Is UM among the top group of schools for you at this point? Is UM a school you will strongly consider?
JH: All the schools that offered me are equal, they are all in the same group right now.
