Endless Motor Sports had the privilege of speaking with 2017 4 star Isaiah Livers (Meanstreets/Kalamazoo Central) fresh off his unofficial visit and academic tour to the University of Michigan. Isaiah recaps the visit mechanics, the role UM envisions him in, and potential plans for a return visit. Head coach John Beilein and UM have intensified the interest in the 6’8 combo forward in recent weeks, as Livers was a Spring stock-riser on the EYBL circuit where he averaged 10 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 53.2% from the field and 40.5% from distance. It’s hard not to like the fit between Isaiah and UM, as Livers has the ability to knock down perimeter shots from both mid-range and deep, good enough ball skills to make plays off the dribble from the 3-4 position, all while having the size and athletic ability to attack the glass.
EM: Can you walk us through the UM visit mechanics?
IL: I arrived at 4pm, first we talked about academics mostly, toured the facilities, and then discussed more of where he (Coach Beilein) wants me and how he wants to use me on the team.
EM: Can you talk a bit about the academic tour and what that involved?
IL: We took a visit to the Business School, as I’m considering that for my major right now. Basically told me what it would be like to study Business at UofM and how important academics are.
EM: What was the basketball presentation like in terms of the position/role that Coach Beilein and staff want you to take on?
IL: Had me at the 3-4 position on the wing, and even wanted me to get great enough to where I can play the 1-4. Closest player they could compare me to was Zak Irvin or Caris Levert.
EM: Is that a role you’d like and that you’re comfortable in?
IL: Yes sir. It’s a perfect fit for me to get beyond the next level.
EM: Did Coach Beilein/staff give any indication of when an offer might come?
IL: He specifically said the first week of August.
EM: It seems like UM has been showing a lot of interest in you of late – would you say UM has moved into your top group at this point?
IL: Yes, UofM has moved into one of my top choices.
EM: Any plans to make a return visit to UM?
IL: Yeah, some time in August.
EM: Do you have a decision time frame at this point?
IL: Some time in the Fall of my senior year is the plan.
