Zavon Godwin is an elite student-athlete currently attending Roseville High School in metropolitan Detroit. Zavon is among the best high school shooting guard prospects in the state of Michigan, and was named 2016 Honorable Mention All Detroit Area as a sophomore. Godwin is a prototype wing at 6’5, with nice range on his jumpshot and the length and verticality to finish with authority at the rim, while having the tools to be a very good defender.

EM: Congrats on the great Spring, you’ve turned some heads with your ability. Can you tell us how things are going for the Mustangs as a team and for you individually?

ZG: Well when we started out we did rocky with our chemistry, but we pulled through as a family. We work hard for each other, I love playing with the Mustangs, real good place to be. Individually, I’ve grown and improved my game. I’ve been doing really well

EM: Can you describe your game for those that are not familiar?

ZG: I’ve been called a really good passer, average three point shooter, good mid range shooter, slasher that is very athletic.

EM: How often do you work on your game?

ZG: Every single day my coach has three, maybe four hours workouts during aau season.  I might do double workouts some days. I really love the game of basketball, it’s really fun to play

EM: Can we talk a bit about your interests as a student, what is your favorite subject?

ZG: My favorite subject is history, it interests me. But I love school, especially knowing  grades are a big part of playing ball in high school and college

EM: What do you plan to major in when attending college?

ZG: I want to major in Business but I know a lot of ball players do that.  I also want to be a detective, so Forensics may be a choice.

EM: What are your interests off the court?

ZG:  I love Andrew Wiggins’ shoes and Kobe’s video games. I have a PS4, don’t play it as much cause I hoop a lot, but 2K16 is one of my favorite games along with Black Ops 3. With music, I like Drake and Future and my Mom and family got me hip to old school lol. And I spend time with family whenever I can, they are big supporters in my life, we stick together.

EM: Shifting a bit to recruiting, can you tell us which schools are showing interest?

ZG: Central Michigan, Michigan, Akron, Temple, Northwood, Ferris State

EM: Any visits or team camps lined up in the near future?

ZG: I’m visiting Akron Sunday, and going to UM team camp next week.

EM: What factors are important to you and your family when making your college decision?

ZG: I just want to stay humble throughout the process. I come from a humble family and to just stay focused and find the place that best fits me. I am grateful that I have the talent to play this game.

EM: Any personal goals on or off the court?

ZG: Really to make it to college, get my degree, and have a life where I don’t have to struggle.

EM: Last, if you could give the youth some advice on how to succeed either on or off the court, what would you say?

ZG: I would tell them if you really love the game of basketball, put in the work to get better. Would also tell them how serious school is, and have a plan after basketball. Set a goal other then basketball only.
