Dominick Welch is an elite student-athlete currently attending Cheektowaga High School in metropolitan Buffalo. Dominick is considered one of the best wings in the country, currently ranked a 4star and #33 shooting guard for the class of 2017 per ESPN. The 6’6 sharpshooter is currently shooting 40% from distance on the prestigious EYBL circuit, and is a hot commodity on the recruiting trail with college coaches seeking a lengthy shooter with the ability to finish above the rim.

EM: Congrats on the great weekend in EYBL Atlanta. Can you tell us how things are going for City Rocks as a team and for you individually?

DW: Things are going very good with us with punching our way into Peach Jam, and really showing what we’re all about. Just continue to turn heads and keep winning. For myself ,I felt that I started out slow and had a slump to over come because I wasn’t focused enough mentally on the task at hand, but as the season went on I kind of tuned everything out and showed what I was capable of doing on the court.

EM: Can you describe your game for those that are not familiar?

DW: I love to attack the rim and finish over defenders, and knock down open shots when its there.  And I really like blocking shots as well.

EM: How often do you work on your game?

DW: Every day

EM: Can we talk a bit about your interests as a student, what do you plan on majoring in when attending college?

DW: I look forward to studying broadcasting as my major once I attend to college.

EM: What are your interests off the court?

DW: I like to hang out with my friends and workout

EM: Shifting a bit to recruiting, can you tell us which schools have offered?

DW: Buffalo, Canisius, and Iona

EM: Which schools show interest that haven’t yet offered?

DW: Louisville, Virginia, Dayton, St. Bonaventure, Iowa, St. Joes. UConn, Davidson, Albany, Fairfield, and a hand full of others.

EM: Any visits or team camps lined up in the near future?

DW: Louisville soon, and Albany on the 20th of this month (June).

EM: What factors are important to you and your family when making your college decision?

DW: Just how the school and the program is, and if it’s the fit for me and finding a place where I’m going to play.

EM: Do you have a timeline for your decision?

DW: Not as of right now.

EM: Any personal goals on or off the court?

DW: On the court, to finish my high school career being the all time leading scorer at my High School and becoming a better person off the court by helping people.

EM: Last, if you could give the youth some advice on how to succeed either on or off the court, what would you say?

DW: Always chase your dreams and never let someone bring you down or stop your success. Never be afraid to be yourself and make sure you find your purpose in life and never give up, because for myself I’ve never had a trainer and did all my workouts on my own and just wanted to be good at basketball. So just work out and it’ll pay off in the long run.
