Charles Payton is an elite student-athlete currently attending Bloomington High School in Bloomington, Illinois. Charles is one of the most coveted high school prospects in the country, currently ranked a 4star and #158 player for the class of 2017 per ESPN. Running with the Illinois Young and Reckless on the AAU circuit, the 6’6 forward has given notice to college coaches of his elite athleticism and ability to play above the rim, attack the glass, and block shots.


EM: Congrats on the great Spring so far, you’ve turned some heads with your ability. Can you tell us how things are going for Young and Reckless as a team and for you individually?

CP: Things have been good, just ready to get into July with a lot of big tournaments coming up.

EM: Can you describe your game for those that are not familiar?

CP: I’m a lengthy wing who can attack the glass and finish over the top of defenders.

EM: How often do you work on your game?

CP: Every day during June and July, but weekends as of right now because finals have come up




EM: Can we talk a bit about your interests as a student, what is your favorite subject?

CP: History is my favorite subject.

EM: What do you plan to major in when attending college?

CP: I plan on majoring in interior design.

EM: What are your interests off the court?

CP: I like to play pool, but not much besides that.





EM: Shifting a bit to recruiting, can you tell us which schools have offered?

CP: Nebraska, Southern Illinois, UIC

EM: Which schools show interest that haven’t yet offered?

CP: Illinois State, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Wright State

EM: Any visits or team camps lined up in the near future?

CP: I’m working on setting one up with Wisconsin-Green Bay and DePaul right now.

EM: What factors are important to you and your family when making your college decision?

CP: A good program, the staff and me being comfortable.

EM: Do you have a timeline for your decision?

CP: I’ve been thinking it will  be a little into my senior season.




EM: Any personal goals on or off the court?

CP: Just to get my game ready for the next level.

EM: Last, if you could give the youth some advice on how to succeed either on or off the court, what would you say?

CP: Make sure you keep your mind 100% on whatever it is you want to be successful in!
