Davion 1

Davion Williams is an elite student-athlete currently attending Belleville High School in Metropolitan Detroit. The 6’2 combo-guard is one of the most athletic players in the nation, currently ranked the #68 player in the country for the class of 2018 per Rivals. Recently making the switch to King James on the AAU circuit, Davion is going to get tons of attention from college coaches that crave an athletic guard that can get to the rim and finish, while playing lockdown perimeter defense.  While Davion is electric on the basketball court, he’s also an honor roll student at Belleville High School holding down a 3.4 GPA.

EM: Congratulations on winning the District Championship, can you tell us a bit about your High School season for the team and for you individually?

DW: As a team, we played very good. We won the District Championship, it was the first time Belleville went that far was 2005, so I’m proud to say I was a part of that. Individually, I think this was a good season for me. I made all-metro first team and all state fifth team. I feel like I had a strong sophomore year. My motivation is getting to the Breslin, that’s what pushes me to get better.

EM: Can you describe your game for those that are not familiar?

DW: I’m a combo guard that can bring the ball up the court and knock down open shots.  I’m an above the rim type player that is going to attack at all times and just play aggressive.  More than anything though, I play D. If I’m not working on D, my game isn’t working on O. I really take pride in my defense.

EM: How often do you work on your game?

DW: Always in the gym before school. I get up 1000 shots and then work on my ballhandling. After school, I get my lifting in with my Father and get in more skill development with a trainer.

EM: Can we talk a bit about your interests as a student, what is your favorite subject?

DW: My favorite subject is Physics, it comes so naturally for me.

EM: What do you plan to major in when attending college?

DW: I plan to major in Business/Marketing

EM: What are your interests off the court?

DW: I like to watch college basketball a lot and play 2K with my brothers from the basketball team.

EM: Shifting a bit to recruiting, can you tell us which schools have offered you?

DW: I have offers from Oakland University, Toledo, UofD, and EMU.

EM: Which schools show interest that haven’t yet offered:

DW: Michigan, MSU, DePaul, Xavier, Buffalo, Mississippi State, Santa Clara

EM: Which schools do you hear from the most?

DW: Michigan, MSU, Xavier, Buffalo, and Mississipi State

EM: Can you talk a bit about your relationships with UM and MSU?

DW: I’ve been to UM and MSU numerous times. I think both of those colleges are a good fit for me because I bring something to the table, and that’s always playing hard with 100% effort.

EM: Any visits lined up in the near future?

DW: No visits lined up, but Coach Beilein just watched me workout today.

EM: What factors are important to you and your family when making your college decision?

DW: The school needs to have a good Business program, feel like home, and be a good fit. If I go out of state/region, the school should still feel like home.

     IV. AAU

EM: Can we talk about AAU a bit, are you excited to make the switch to King James and run on the EYBL circuit?

DW: Yes, very excited. It feels good, just have to prove to people that I can compete with the best in the country. I’m very pumped and ready for the challenge.

EM: Any personal goals on or off the court?

DW: My goal off the court is to stay above a 3.4 GPA. On the court, I want to be a floor general.

EM: Last, if you could give the youth some advice on how to succeed either on or off the court, what would you say?

DW: Put forth your best effort in school and basketball at all times and everything else will fall in place.
